Mt. Zion Methodist Church is located in south Atlanta, just north of Hapeville. We are a loving, family-oriented church that has been around for over 200 years. We strive to spread the love of Jesus in our community and beyond. Mt. Zion is a friendly place, and everyone is treated like family from day one. There are numerous opportunities for fellowship and service throughout the year. Sunday school classes, worship services, youth group, VBS, mission trips, Project 12:13, choirs, cantatas, homecomings, revivals, and the annual BBQ are just a few of the activities at Mt. Zion.
Mount Zion Methodist Church located on one of the highest elevations in the area was established in 1816 as a mission to settlers and Creek Indians. The aim of the church was “to watch over one another in Christian love; to remember each other in prayer; to aid each other in sickness and distress; to cultivate sympathy in feeling and Christian courtesy in speech and conduct; to be mindful of the rules of life taught by our Savior”. It was housed in an old schoolhouse until 1830 when a weatherboard building was erected using wooden pegs. That building was torn down in 1937 and replaced with the existing building which was dedicated in January, 1939. In the early days Mount Zion drew its congregation from all areas. They came in buggies, on horseback or walked from settlements as far south as Jonesboro. It is no different now, members come from all over to worship together at Mount Zion Methodist Church. For over 200 years Mount Zion has been a beacon of light bringing the gospel of Jesus Christ to all.
Our mission is to seek God passionately, love others unconditionally, and serve the world selflessly to lead others to Christ
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always.” Matthew 28:19-20
Our goals for the future are:
1. Expand the kingdom of God by sharing His everlasting love
2. Increase Sunday school and worship attendance
3. Connect people in fellowship and faith
4. Build an active youth group
5. Inspire each other to grow in Christ through Bible study, song, and prayer
